British Airways parent IAG SA edged past Deutsche Lufthansa AG to become Europe’s second-biggest airline last year, spurred by its acquisition of Ireland’s Aer Lingus as strikes held back the German carrier.

The three biggest American airlines once shrugged off their lowest-cost rivals, however, since the cost of fuel continues to drop, they began to wage fare fights to their low-cost foes by adding flights and seats and reducing ticket price to gain more customers.

The current value of IHG is about UK Pounds 5.8 billion. Less then what Marriott is reported to be paying for Starwood which is US $ 12.2 Billion.
