The explosive growth of online travel retail is forecast to continue apace, with the market increasing by 20% to $69 billion in the European Union between 2006 and 2011, according to Euromonitor International.
Lai further added, “Generally, travel agents in North Asian countries are showing similar travel sentiments across the board during the current crisis. One difference though is that in markets like Hong Kong where the financial sector is significantly affected by the downturn some international TMCs have to resort to more drastic cost saving measures like no-pay leave and staff lay-offs.”
Web 2.0 or Travel 2.0 is a hot topic for the travel industry and new research by EyeforTravel has revealed that User Generated Content (UGC) now plays a remarkable role in the UK young professional’s online travel buying cycle, with 72% saying that consumer reviews have influenced their travel choice.
