The centerpiece of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport’s Phase III expansion—Terminal 3—is expected to be operational by the end of October this year.
Once in service, the airport will become the world’s largest single-terminal airport.
1. Unprecedented terminal size.
By the end of 2023, the opening of the East and West Concourses linking Terminals 1 and 2 expanded the airport’s total terminal area to 1.561 million square meters, currently the largest single-terminal structure in the world.
With the addition of Terminal 3, covering 683,300 square meters, the airport will further solidify its lead in single-terminal scale.
2. Exceptional passenger and cargo capacity.
Upon completion of Phase III, Baiyun Airport will enter the era of “three terminals and five runways,” enabling annual throughput of over 120 million passengers and 3.8 million tons of cargo—with the capacity to reach 140 million passengers and 6 million tons of cargo in the future.
3. Seamlessly integrated transport hub.
Terminal 3 will integrate air travel, highways, high-speed rail, and urban rail, creating a multi-modal transportation complex.
4.First open-air observation deck in China.
Most excitingly, Terminal 3 will feature China’s first open-air airport observation deck.
Covering about 200 square meters and positioned 24 meters above ground on the land side, the deck offers panoramic views of the entire airport and unobstructed, up-close views of aircraft takeoffs and landings.
Even better—according to official sources, the observation deck and tower will be open to the public without the need for a boarding pass, making it a must-visit destination for aviation enthusiasts.
