Online competitive intelligence service Hitwise has ranked Thomson Holidays ( www.thomson.co.uk) as number one for most hits on a travel agency website. (1/21/2008)
The figures shared were for the week ending 12 January 2008 within Hitwise´s Travel Agency category based on share of UK visits.
For Thomson, part of TUI Travel UK PLC, the announcement comes after continuous improvements to its website. Over the last year, Thomson has added thousands of properties to its website as well as TripAdvisor reviews, video clips and Thomson customer reviews. Google maps, destination searches and the ´top ten hot searches´ are all available from the home page and customers can select the package or just ´the bits´ such as car hire, excursions or loads of other extras.
Hitwise, through its relationships with ISPs, anonymously captures the online usage of 8.43 million Internet users in the UK. This data is then aggregated and analysed to calculate a website´s ranking.
Graham Donoghue, New Media Director Thomson says, "This time last year we were number two in the ranking but have now beaten Expedia to the ´Number 1´ position. This is another great achievement for Thomson.co.uk and shows that all the developments during 2007 are helping to deliver a really unique customer experience."
