Ireland’s Aer Lingus is to form a strategic alliance with US airline JetBlue, marking the world’s first tie-up between two international low-cost carriers. (2/9/2007)
The alliance will enable Irish and US customers to book a single low fare ticket between Ireland and 51 destinations across the US, Mexico and the Caribbean through either of the company’s websites.
According to media, the alliance is due to become operational in late summer.
“The partnership will significantly extend Aer Lingus’ reach into North America,” the Dublin-based airline said in a statement.
“Customers will now be able to make just one booking, which will allow them to travel from Ireland to the US and onto a direct Jet Blue flight to 51 destinations.”
Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion reportedly said, “It changes the face of access to North America for the Irish travelling public. It will also expose millions of US passengers to the Aer Lingus website and brand and further consolidate aerlingus.com as the premier way to book flights to Ireland from North America.”
