This is what Beacon technology can provide for travelers - an augmented personalized experience like no other delivered via mobile devices based on your physical location.

Imagine this. 

You walk into an airport lounge. The receptionist already greets you by your first name. Your favourite pre-flight beverage, chamomile tea with honey, has already been laid out on the table next to a selection of preferred magazines. In fifteen minutes, the shower suite will be ready right before you board on a 14 hour plane ride to Hong Kong. 

Welcome to the next generation of travel. 

This is what Beacon technology can provide for travelers  - an augmented personalized experience like no other delivered via mobile devices based on your physical location. 

A lot of retail brands have started capitalizing on Beacon technology to attract foot traffic to stores. This week, Facebook has announced their Bluetooth beacons test in New York City for hundreds of small to medium sized businesses, enabling brands to have the ability to connect with people on-site.

While it's still too early to tell how effective beacon technology is, it didn't deter travel brands from experimenting. 

Brands like Marriott have rolled out a program called LocalPerks for customers to experience extra surprises and delights such as free wine and appetizers while staying at specific properties.
