January 16, 2007:Travelocity.com, which booked $7.4 billion of travel in 2005, said it would start in February a Web site for India, a market that it expects will be one of its three biggest in Asia by revenue in a year.

The Web site will be the first in Asia using the Travelocity name in a region where it runs sites under the Zuji.com name, said Scott Blume, chief executive of Zuji and Travelocity’s Asia business. India will be its seventh market. It has travel-booking Web sites in countries like Singapore and Australia.

The company, based in Texas, is betting that economic growth and rising incomes of a 300-million- strong middle class will increase air travel within the country and in international travel. The top purchase by India’s Internet shoppers in the first half of 2006 was air tickets, Visa International said in December.
