Friday, August 15, 2008:Jetstar has applied for government approval to let it codeshare on more services between Japan and Australia with legacy carrier Japan Airlines.

Applicable for the Osaka–Gold Coast–Sydney and Cairns–Tokyo(Narita) services, Jetstar has an existing codeshare arrangement with JAL on Osaka–Brisbane–Sydney services.

“Following the success of our code-share agreement with JAL to date, we look forward to continuing to build this relationship,” said Bruce Buchanan, Jetstar Group General Manager Commercial.

“Japan remains Jetstar’s largest and most important inbound market and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our colleagues and industry partners in both Australia and Japan to manage the success of these Japan services.” Currently Jetstar services its Japan routes with its A320-200 aircraft, in a two class configuration of StarClass and Economy.

For the time being, it appears that the agreement is purely one-way with neither party suggesting that JQ tickets be sold on JL flights.
