17 June, 2008: An advanced online security connection for Galileo users is designed to introduce new levels of security for online transactions.

The new connection, which removes the limitations caused by leased line technology, is being promoted by Galileo parent company Travelport GDS.

The Secure Sockets Layer enables agents to access the Galileo host and complete secure internet transactions through an encrypted link between the GDS’s web server and an agency’s desktop.

After migration to SSL connectivity, each workstation automatically connects to Galileo through the internet.

UK and Ireland country manager Patrick Lukan said: “Online security is a critical issue for all companies to manage especially considering the ever-increasing number of online transactions.

“Our new SSL connection ensures that all data passing between the Web server and our desktop remains both private and unique to travel agencies and Galileo.
“Migrating to SSL Connectivity is very straightforward for all Galileo-connected users, as the software can simply be downloaded from the internet.

“Once agencies have had their connection information updated in Galileo’s database and have downloaded the software, customers will immediately benefit from the SSL connection.”
