From November 12 to 14 this year, primary and secondary school students in Sichuan will enjoy their first official autumn break, which, combined with the following weekend, creates a five-day holiday. However, many parents planning trips with their children have reported a surge in prices.
Ms. Liu, a parent in Chengdu, said that while planning a family trip during the autumn break, she found that flights from Chengdu to Sanya on November 12 were shockingly expensive — most were sold out, with remaining tickets priced at over USD 840.
To meet the rising travel demand, Sichuan has added extra train services for the holiday. According to Sichuan Online, China Railway Chengdu Group has adjusted train schedules and increased capacity on popular routes to Xi’an, Changsha, Kunming, and destinations in southern China, as well as high-speed lines like Chengdu–Yibin and the new Chengdu–Kunming railway. In total, more than 80 additional or extended train services have been introduced.
Meanwhile, many scenic attractions across Sichuan have launched free-entry or discount campaigns to attract visitors. For example, the Qingcheng Mountain–Dujiangyan Scenic Area will offer free admission to all primary and secondary school students nationwide from November 12 to 16, while accompanying parents can enjoy discounted entrance tickets and reduced fares for the mountain train.
