According to a travel blogger, starting September 16, China Southern Airlines plans to resume nonstop flights between Guangzhou and Vancouver, Canada:
* Two flights per week, operating on Tuesdays and Fridays
This marks China Southern’s long-awaited return to the Guangzhou–Vancouver route after several years.
The outbound flight will depart Guangzhou at 00:25 and arrive in Vancouver at 21:45 local time. The return flight will leave Vancouver at 01:05 and land in Guangzhou at 06:00 the following day. The 12–14 hour nonstop service offers travelers from southern China direct access without detours.
However, China Southern faces strong competition from its Greater Bay Area neighbors. Hong Kong and Shenzhen already operate direct flights to Vancouver.
Data from the Flight Manager DAST platform shows that the Hong Kong–Vancouver route is served by Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and Air Canada.
Between August 7 and 13 alone, these three airlines operated 31 one-way flights from Hong Kong to Vancouver—averaging more than four flights per day.
By contrast, Shenzhen’s connectivity to Vancouver remains weaker, with Hainan Airlines currently offering just one weekly flight to Vancouver on Thursdays.
Recently, the second phase of China-Canada flight expansion was finalized, adding six new flights in total. Alongside China Southern’s two flights, Air China and China Eastern were allocated the remaining four.
