Recently, Chongqing East Station officially began operations, quickly becoming a new landmark and tourist hotspot.
According to official reports, the terminal hub’s total building area spans 1.22 million square meters. What does that mean?
That's the equivalent of two Guangzhou South Stations, or roughly 170 standard football fields—larger than the central districts of many cities.
The station features 3 yards, 15 platforms, and 29 tracks, with a four-story terminal. During peak hours, it can accommodate up to 16,000 passengers per hour, ranking it among the top-performing stations in China.
When hailed as the “world’s largest,” it’s important to clarify the criteria: the ranking is based on total built-up area completed in a single phase, not on passenger flow.
Looking ahead, Chongqing East Station enables 1-hour travel to Chengdu and Guiyang, 3-hour access to Changsha, Wuhan, Xi’an, and Kunming, and 6-hour connections to major hubs like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen—forming a highly efficient high-speed rail travel network.
