The company is evolving from an e-commerce platform into a broader consumer platform through this strategic upgrade.

On June 23, Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu announced in an internal email that, effective immediately, Ele.me and Fliggy will be integrated into Alibaba’s China E-commerce Business Group.

Fan Yu will continue to serve as Chairman and CEO of Ele.me, reporting to Jiang Fan. Nan Tian (Zhuoran Zhuang) will remain CEO of Fliggy, also reporting to Jiang Fan. Both Ele.me and Fliggy will retain independent corporate management models, while aligning business decisions and execution with the centralized goals of the China E-commerce Business Group.

In the company-wide email, Wu stated:

“This is a strategic upgrade as we evolve from an e-commerce platform to a comprehensive consumer platform. Going forward, we will optimize and integrate our business models and organizational structures from a user-centric perspective to deliver richer, higher-quality lifestyle and consumption experiences.”

Analysts note that Alibaba holds strong advantages in the consumer sector, including 1 billion annual active consumers, a product base of 300,000 Tmall brands, and a mature e-commerce service system. Following this strategic adjustment, Alibaba is expected to accelerate the integration of group resources and advance its transformation into a broader consumer platform.
