If you used a credit or debit card at an InterContinental Hotels Group-branded location between Aug. 1, 2016, and Dec. 29, 2016, you might be entitled to compensation from a class action settlement.
The conglomerate was victim to cyberattackers four years ago, compromising payment systems, including incorrect charges to people's credit or debit cards.
The affected hotel brands include InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Candlewood Suites, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites and Hotel Indigo.
The settlement reached in June provides for payments to people who submit valid claims for documented out-of-pocket expenses of up to $250 where the data security incidents was a contributing factor to the charge.
The total payments to the class are capped at $1,550,000.
Specific hotel locations and time frames during which the hotel, restaurant and bar locations were affected by the Data Security Incidents are available here.
Those who want to submit a claim must do so before September 12.
"We are pleased to have reached this settlement agreement regarding the 2016 incidents. We take data security and the way we handle the personal data of our guests, colleagues and others very seriously," said IHG spokesperson Jacob Hawkins in a statement to USA TODAY. "Since 2016, we have implemented updated policies, procedures and technologies and currently monitor our systems using various security solutions."
Just this year both Mariott International and MGM Resorts International had their own data security breaches, which compromised personal information for a combined total of more than 15 million guests.
