China Tourism Academy has projected that China will receive a total of 3.72 billion visitor arrivals in 2014, a 10% y-o-y increase, and annual total tourism revenue is expected to be RMB3.3 trillion, a 14.6% y-o-y increase, the People’s Daily Online reported citing the Academy’s newly released Tourism Trends Analysis for Q1-Q3.
The projections put inbound visitor arrivals at 129 million for 2014, of which 55 million were overnight visitors. Both figures remain unchanged from last year. Outbound tourism is projected to total 115 million trips, a 17.5% y-o-y increase. Inbound tourism revenue will total US$48 billion, up 6.2% y-o-y, while Chinese tourists spent will top US$155 billion, a 20.8% y-o-y increase, leading to a trade deficit for tourism services exceeding US$100 billion.(Translation by David)
