China Tourism Association launches China Business Travel Association

The China Tourism Association (CTA), a national travel association under the State Council, announced the inauguration of the China Business Travel Association (CBTA). Initiated by TravelDaily China (the parent company of ChinaTravelNews.com), the CBTA's founding members include prominent industry players such as CWT China, Trip.com Group Business Travel (Trip.Biz), Zhejiang Geely Business Travel Services, China Air Service, Yiqifei.com, Shanghai Jinjiang International Hotels, and Hainan Airlines. Charlie Li, CEO of TravelDaily China, is appointed as Director of CBTA.

How non-traditional tourist destinations rise to fame

For the past year, some non-traditional tourist cities in China have taken leading roles in the tourism market. Zibo barbecue, Shenyang bathing culture and Harbin's hospitality have become internet phenomenon, attracting a large number of tourists. During the three-day New Year's Day holidays, Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, received a total of 3.048 million tourists, with a total tourism revenue of 5.91 billion yuan ($832 million), reaching a historical peak and quadrupling that of Sanya, a popular winter tourist site in South China's Hainan Province.

China Tourism Group Duty Free shares rise on strong earnings

Shares of China Tourism Group Duty Free jumped on strong preliminary 2023 earnings, as growth in international travel gains momentum after China's post-pandemic reopening. The world's largest travel retailer said Monday that it expects revenue in 2023 to have increased 24% from the previous year to 67.58 billion yuan (US$9.44 billion), and forecasts net profit to have gained 34% to CNY6.72 billion. Analysts said the preliminary results were broadly in line with expectations.

China’s air passenger throughput to likely hit new record in Spring Festival travel rush

The demand for flights during the approaching 40-day travel rush for the Lunar New Year holiday will likely hit a record high, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Some 80 million passengers are expected to travel by air between Jan. 6 and March 5, up 45 on last year and 10 percent on the pre-pandemic level in 2019, Liang Nan, director of the CAAC’s transport department, said at a press conference yesterday.

China’s winter tourism rebound a bright spot in tepid economy

Winter tourism in China has rebounded sharply in a welcome boon to economically weak regions in the north struggling to recover from years of pandemic gloom, and providing a boost to sluggish domestic consumption.

Destinations in China’s northeastern rust-belt, such as the city of Harbin in Heilongjiang province, have attracted droves of domestic visitors from warmer climes in the past weeks. The growing popularity of winter sports has also drawn skiers and snowboarders to the slopes of Xinjiang in northwestern China.

Yunnan attracts tourists in winter due to mild climate

Southwest China's Yunnan Province has attracted legions of tourists this winter due to its mild climate, according to state media Xinhua. Tourists enjoy water-splashing at a Dai ethnic scenic spot in Jinghong City of Yunnan. They also enjoy food at Lijiang ancient town, as well as hot spring pools in Tengchong City.
