AAA joins online trip planning bandwagon

February 28, 2007:Free to the public, AAA´s Internet TripTik travel planner combines full-color, high resolution graphics with user-friendly navigation and many other useful functions like being able to e-mail a map to a friend - all at no charge to any user.

AAA launched a new online booking tool that provides its members with one-stop, customized travel planning and booking with discounted “out-the-door” pricing, special airline rates with leading carriers, world-wide hotel inventory and 24/7 customer service assistance.

Called Build Your Trip & SAVE, the new Web tool leverages the expertise of America’s largest and most trusted leisure travel agency with its proprietary information database and exclusive savings negotiated for AAA with major U.S. airlines, hotels and car rental companies.

“Build Your Trip & SAVE saves time and money,” said Claire Lockley, assistant vice president Travel Product for The Auto Club Group (ACG). “We launched this online product to ensure that AAA members have access to competitive online packaging capabilities, enhancing the value of their membership.”

Research conducted by eVOC Insights and RelevantView (eVOC Insights is a customer experience consulting firm, and RelevantView is a leading technology provider of Web-based research solutions) says that 37 percent of consumers book online directly with providers (hotel, airline, etc.) due to attractive pricing, while 20 percent use an online travel agency like AAA.com due to broad selection. AAA believes that access to negotiated pricing with hundreds of travel suppliers and its proprietary travel information database will make Build Your Trip & SAVE popular among both groups.

(Many waive the 14-day advance purchase requirement and still offer the opportunity to save) - Customer service assistance is available 24/7.

Since its launch in January, AAA.com/BuildYourTrip has generated significant sales volume for the six AAA clubs in the upper Midwest that are affiliated with ACG.

In addition to its online travel planning and booking capabilities, AAA recently launched its Internet TripTik(R) travel planner, a best-in-class mapping tool leveraging the Auto Club’s vast storehouse of travel knowledge and information.

Free to the public, the Internet TripTik travel planner combines full- color, high resolution graphics with user-friendly navigation and many other useful functions like being able to e-mail a map to a friend - all at no charge to any user.

The new AAA map/planning tool features more than 400,000 “points of interest” which include lodgings, restaurants, events and attractions.

AAA also offers another historic first: AAA.com is the first online mapping tool to provide the locations of and fuel prices for local gas stations. AAA recently added data for almost 100,000 U.S. gas stations to its popular TripTik(R) travel planner. Locations are updated weekly and multiple- grade fuel prices are updated four times daily. Simply mouse over each location to see prices for multiple fuel grades.
