Ctrip loses over US$12.7 million in 12-hour shutdown

Ctrip's website and app were shut down for 12 hours by an unknown attack of its server on May 28, which caused its share price to fall by 4% at the opening of trading and close 1.59% lower at US$80.22 per share.

Ctrip lost an average of US$1.0648 million per hour during service disruptions, according to its Q1 2015 fiscal report. At this rate, It lost over US$12.776 million in this service disruption.

Service on Ctrip’s website and app suddenly stopped at 11:00 on May. After three hours, Ctrip began directing users to eLong’s site as its own service was still not restored.

Later that day at 17:00, eLong’s homepage was also shut down for around 30 minutes, yet curiously its other pages were functioning normally. Ctrip’s website and app were finally up and running again at 22:45 that day.  (Translation by David)
