71.31 million Chinese make outbound trips in H1 2018

In the first half of 2018, Chinese made 71.31 million outbound trips, a 15% year-on-year increase.

Average spent per person for outbound travel during the first half of 2018 was 5200 yuan ( around USD 759). This was relatively the safe compared with the first half of 2017.

The Top 10 Overseas destination for Chinese: Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, the United States of America and Cambodia.

Top dark horse destinations with the fastest growth: Serbia, Laos, Belgium, Vietnam, Sweden, Turkey, Russia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Finland.

Demographics for outbound travelers

53% of the outbound travelers were female, and 47% were male.

Post-80s are still the backbone of outbound tourism, with a proportion of 31%.

The contribution of outbound tourists through Ctrip in terms of group tours or independent travel is 50:50.

New trend and new way of travel is through customized trips and local guides. In the first half of this year, the number of tourists who signed up for Ctrip’s outbound private trips saw a 300% YoY increase.

Top four requests asked by travelers through Virtual Tour Manager during the first half of 2018: cuisine-related inquiries at 18.75%, sightseeing at 17.07%, transportation at 15.99% and in search of a travel buddy at 13.43%
