Weekendesk tables Euro 5 million for European expansion

Short-break specialist Weekendesk has raised Euro 5 million from existing investor Otium Capital and and says the investment will help it accelerate growth.

Short-break specialist Weekendesk has raised Euro 5 million from existing investor Otium Capital.

The Paris-based company says it has achieved 27% sales growth in 2015 with total sales of Euro 65 million.

Weekendesk, founded in 2008, wants to become Europe’s leading short-break provider by 2020 and says the investment will help it accelerate growth.

The company currently specialises in France, Belgium and Spain offering themed breaks and combining hotels with activities.

The company has just expanded into the Netherlands and expect further country launches in the first half of 2016.

In a statement Weekendesk says it is attracting two million unique visitors a month on its websites and saw 340,000 bookings in 2015.

Its Spanish site is growing fastest, up 52% in sales on 2014 to Euro 20 million.

Otium was also an investor in France-based restaurant booking site Lafourchette which was acquired by TripAdvisor about 18 months ago.
