SiteMinder is looking to trigger further growth of its booking system provider strategy in Asia by acquiring Globekey.

Terms of the deal to buy the company have not been disclosed.

SiteMinder claims the deal will increase its ability to better serve hotels in Asia that are looking for direct reservations, in particular properties in Indonesia and Thailand.

Globekey was founded in 2000 and is currently used by around 1,200 properties around the world.

The company’s internet booking engine will be integrated into SiteMinder’s Channel Manager platform.

SiteMinder co-founder and managing director, Mike Ford, says “with the ever-increasing importance of direct bookings, Globekey is well positioned to continue providing this most valuable product solution – as part of a complete distribution strategy – for hotels”.

He adds:

“Globekey is an excellent business with a loyal customer base and immense potential, providing us with the opportunity to accelerate the growth of the SiteMinder business through new insight into the Asian market.”

Alongside back-end reservation systems for properties, Globekey has created a tool for taking bookings via Facebook and on multiple devices.
