(TravelDaily) Ctrip reports that it increased views from its online community by 300% during the National Day Holiday. The number of Ctrip’s mobile apps views was the twice the number of its website views and more than half of the travel reviews were posted via mobile devices.
With the arrival of the mobile internet age more and more users are using mobile devices to make direct internet searches. Ctrip’s data shows that the top domestic destinations being searched included Xiamen, Suzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou and top international destinations being searched included Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and Bali.
During the National Day Holiday 82% of the visits to Ctrip’s mobile apps were from users in the major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. This is due to both the earlier adoption of smartphones in major cities, compared to smaller cities, and the fact that the largest group of travel customers live there.
Statistics show that last year China’s travel industry had 2.94 trillion RMB in revenue but online booking took less than 10%. This shows that there still is a huge potential for growth in online travel business. (Translation by David)
