Chinese travelers are less prone to go on wild shopping sprees and now they are interested in having a better travel experience.

A BusinessWeek report shows a change in the consumer behavior of Chinese traveling abroad. Chinese travelers are less prone to go on wild shopping sprees and now they are starting to go through the stage where they enjoy fine dining and luxury accommodations as well as participating in the local leisure and amusement activities. Chinese travelers are now interested in having a better travel experience.

The report cites a study that shows spending on dining, accommodations, and entertainment by Chinese travelers abroad has risen. From the 1st to the 7th of October this year Chinese travelers spent 52.2% more on dining and accommodations and 56.6% more on leisure and entertainment activities than they did in the same period last year. In comparison their spending of shopping only rose 30% from last year.

Data collected from 140 countries and regions show that Chinese travelers’ spending on dining rose the fastest in Taiwan, Switzerland, and Australia while they had the most spending on entertainment activities in Thailand and the USA. The analysts in this study say this transition shows that Chinese travelers are beginning to get a new understanding of how to enjoy time with their families. (Translation by David)
