Breaking news, 24 Nov 2008, SHANGHAI - Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will open a new hotel in Manzhouli city of China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in third quarter of 2009. This is the third property the group will develop in the region, in addition to Shangri-La Hotel, Baotou and Shangri-La Hotel, Hohhot, which opened in mid-2007. The 200-room hotel will be the first five-star property in the Manzhouli. To date, there are only three local four-star hotels in this city.

When asked why Shangri-la luxury brand selected Manzhouli, Joachim Heineke, hotel GM, said Manzhouli is China’s top inland port of entry in terms of imports and exports. Situated on the Chinese-Russian border, Manzhouli accounts for 37 percent of total foreign trade in Inner Mongolia and 13 percent of China’s total trade with its 15 neighbouring countries. Manzhouli is also a city of natural wonders.

“Shangri-la is always the leading hotel group in China’s second-tier cities. China domestic market has great potential. We were the first one to enter Harbin, Changchun, and other international chains followed,” Heineke said.

Shangri-La Hotel, Manzhouli will be located in the prime city centre area, east of Tong He Road and north of Liu Dao Road, a 20-minute drive from the airport and five minutes from the train station.
