Tuesday, July 22, 2008: Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide have announced their plans to open a Sheraton Okinawa Ginowan Hotel in Japan in 2010, in conjunction with Joint Hospitality Co.

“We are thrilled with the landmark entry of Sheraton into Okinawa, Japan’s year round paradise resort island,” said Lothar Pehl, Regional Vice President, Starwood Japan, Korea and Guam region.

Pehl expressed the happiness of Starwood “with Joint Hospitality Company’s decision to select the Sheraton flag for what will be an outstanding hotel in one of Japan’s most important destinations, in an agreement that will enhance Sheraton’s already impressive portfolio in Asia Pacific.”

The reputation of the brand and the appealing location are seen as crucial factors in the success of the Okinawa property, according to Pehl.

The location of the new hotel is in Ginowan City, on the west cost of Okinawa, approximately 15 minutes from the capital of the region, Naha City and 40 minutes from Naha airport.

Situated in close proximity to Okinawa Convention Centre and Ginowan Port Marina, the 245 guest rooms, 320 sq metre ballroom, all-day dining, gym, spa and indoor/outdoor pool are likely to be often occupied.
