Published: 28 May 2008: Vietnam´s first low-cost airline Jetstar Pacific has recently officially launched its operations, becoming a part of the Qantas Group.

The Qantas Group has an existing 18% holding in Jetstar Pacific and will increase its investment to 30% of the airline in 2010.

As Vietnam´s first low-cost, value-based airline, Jetstar Pacific will change air travel in Vietnam by making it more affordable for more people to fly, reportedly said Jetsta Pacific Chief Executive Officer Luong Hoai Nam.

According to media, this includes a fresh approach to airfare ticket sales and product, including online and through newly re-branded ticketing offices and airports across Vietnam, Hoai Nam said, adding that Jetstar Pacific is Vietnam´s first airline to offer online booking.

As per the information available, Jetstar Pacific will allow Australian travellers greater access to a range of Vietnamese destinations, one of the fastest growing tourist destinations for Australian holiday makers. During 2007, over 150,000 Australians visited Vietnam, a 24% increase on the previous year, underpinned by Jetstar´s introduction since November 2006 of direct two class A330-200 international services between Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Jetstar brand name will be used for operations of Jetstar Pacific, including marketing and advertisement, decoration of the fleet, uniforms for the stewards and stewardess.
