China’s hotels will be half-empty over lunar new year holiday

Almost 50% of hotel rooms will be unoccupied during Lunar New Year month.

The Lunar New Year holiday, often called the word’s largest annual migration, will generate 3 billion passenger trips in China this year, according to government forecasts.

Nationwide hotel occupancy rates during the holiday month have averaged 51.5% since 2007, compared with a non-holiday average of 64.3%, according to data from travel research firm STR.
