Direct online sales grow 29.4% for China Eastern, 64.9% for China Southern
China Eastern recorded revenue of ¥48,020 million and electronic direct sales increased 29.4%. China Southern achieved total operating revenue of ¥60 billion and grew 64.9% in electronic direct sales.
Both China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines presented their interim financial information for the six months ended 30 June 2017 on August 29, 2017.
In the first half of 2017, China Eastern Airlines recorded revenue of RMB 48,020 million, an increase of 3.64%; total profit before income tax was RMB 5,779 million, an increase of 26.34%; profit attributable to equity holders of the parent company amounted to RMB 4,347 million, representing an increase of 34.46%; electronic direct sales proportion increased by 29.4%, up 9.4 percentage points.
Passenger load factor was 81.31%, an increase of 0.44 percentage points, and the passenger load factor of domestic, international and regional routes were 83.14%, 78.24%, and 78.97%, respectively.
Passenger revenue amounted to RMB 42,706 million, an increase of 8.71% and accounting for 93.89% of the total traffic revenue. Passenger traffic volume was 88,147.44 million passenger-kilometers, an increase of 10.2%.
Cargo and mail traffic revenue rose 3.90% to RMB 1.774 billion, and cargo and mail traffic volume amounted 1,366.40 million tonne-kilometers.
Other revenue rose 14.50% to RMB 1.003 billion, accounting for 2.21% of the total traffic revenue.
In the first half of 2017, China Southern Airlines achieved total operating revenue of RMB 60.319 billion, up 11.54% year on year; net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies of was RMB 2.768 billion, down 11.62% from last year.
Total traffic volume increased by 13.55% to 13,156.60 million tonne-kilometers. Passengers carried were 60.59 million, representing an increase of 10.83%. Passenger load factor was 82.31%, representing an increase of 2.24 percentage points.
Overall sales revenue generated from account customers increased by 26%; electronic direct sales grew 64.9% year on year, among which the sales from mobile application grew up 30.8%; and the revenue from value-added services increased by 93.73%.
Passenger revenue was RMB 53,626 million, increased by 10.20% from the same period last year and representing 90.41% of the total traffic revenue. Passenger traffic volume increased by 12.49% to 110,700.27 million passenger-kilometers.
Cargo and mail revenue was RMB 4,193 million, an increase of 34.30% and accounting for 7.07% of the total traffic revenue. Cargo and mail carried increased by 17.72% to 3,401.31 million tonne-kilometers.
The income from hotel and tour operation, air catering and other business were RMB 2.41 billion, RMB 1.39 billion and RMB 6.25 billion, respectively.
During the period, jet fuel costs rose 50.13% to RMB 15,402 million, which was significantly affected by the continuous rise in the international crude oil prices.
