The e-coupons will be distributed through apps of UnionPay's Chinese partners, including financial institutions, travel agencies and airlines.
The number of Chinese visiting Japan through late November grew 28% on the year to 5.94 million, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization.
Chinese state radio station CRI reported that from January to November this year, the number of transaction of overseas-issued UnionPay cards in the Chinese mainland grew by about 50%.
Around 68 million UnionPay cards have been issued in over 40 countries and regions by the end of November.
