Chinese tourism to Australian state drops 14%

Tourism Australia statistics released on October 15 showed that there was a decline in Chinese tourists visiting island-state Tasmania of 14% from 2015 to 2016.

The decline comes after a boom in 2014 when Chinese visitor numbers went up 60%.

Anne Hardy, a tourism expert from the University of Tasmania, said the downward trend was nothing to be concerned about.

Tasmania's Premier Will Hodgman on Friday said the state remained on track to hit its goal of 1.5 million annual tourists by 2020.
