The digital check-in and room selection feature is now being used more than one million times a month and more than seven million rooms have been selected since the start of the year, according to Hilton.

Hilton Worldwide has released some stats to mark the first year of its Digital Key initiative, part of its app for HHonors members.

Digital Key lets members book via the app, check-in digitally, select a specific room, use the device for keyless entry and request room service items.

In its first year, Digital Key has been used to open more than two million doors at the 400 US hotels which have the technology enabled.

The digital check-in and room selection feature is now being used more than one million times a month, it said, and more than seven million rooms have been selected since the start of the year. Some 70% of people who use digital check-in also use the digital key.

Hilton has also announced some upgrades to the initiative, including a specific iPad app, real-time chat with hotel staff within the app, and multiple keys which will allow groups sharing a room to access the same digital key through multiple devices.

Joshua Sloser, vice president of Digital Product Innovation at Hilton, talked in terms of the new features “providing solutions to challenges our guests might not even know they have yet.”

HHonours has some 55 million members worldwide.
