Paris-listed Europcar has announced the latest investment by its Lab unit – a minority stake in Italian multimodal search and comparison platform Wanderio.

Neither the size of the stake nor the amount invested have been disclosed in the announcement.

Wanderio was founded in 2013 and has facilitated more than one million trips since its launch. It aggregates inventory from rail operators, airlines, bus and coach businesses and airport transfer specialists to give users options for point to point travel.

As part of the deal with Europcar it will also now include car rental in its results.

Europcar Lab’s highest-profile investment to date in Ubeeqo, a French B2B/B2C car-sharing business which Europcar acquired at the start of 2015. Last month Ubeeqo acquired BlueMove to kickstart its operations in Spain. Ubeeqo operates in the UK, Belgium and France with Germany due to go live as well.

Wanderio is currently focused on Italian travellers but its CEO Matteo Colò said the tie-up with Europcar “will enable us to accelerate Wanderio growth across Europe, expanding into new markets.”

Fabrizio Ruggiero, Europcar’s head of mobility added that “[this] is the first time the Lab {has] invested in such a company, as we see a great potential in their business model and their unique approach in comparing different means of transport”.
