Exclusive: Expedia argues that hotel owners are losers in direct-booking push

In a chart provided to Skift, Expedia lays out what it calls a conservative estimate on how hotel owners would be taking a revenue hit of around eight percent because of chains’ decisions to publicly offer hotel loyalty program members lower rates on hotel websites than they give to Expedia, for example.

The Euro 16 surcharge began in September last year by Lufthansa has polarised opinion amongst air ticket sellers, but its CEO claims that the move is a strategic issue about shaping the future of distribution of an airline. It is said that Lufthansa suggested fellow carriers should follow suit at a recent IATA meeting in the US.

After tracking Airbnb listing data for almost all of 2015, Murray Cox and Tom Slee, independent researchers, found that in an early December Airbnb disclosure of NYC listing information, Airbnb removed about 1,000 listings of “entire unit” rentals from its platform.
