The Travel Technology Association hit back at a study from the American Hotel & Lodging Association which highlighted dangers of booking online, other than on the hotels’ websites, pointing out $35 billion in OTA bookings last year compared to $32 billion booked direct with hotels.

Hotels seem to be doing a better job of driving consumers directly to their websites from search engines. Marriott International brands show the highest volume of direct site bookings for May 2017 at 26.21%.

Premier Inn’s proportion of direct bookings is pretty eye-opening, but the brand operates under a particular set of circumstances. If it decides to ramp up its international expansion, it will be interesting to see if it chooses to make more use of online travel agents.
