Reliance Pacific launches new travel portal, eyes over US$11m revenue

Group chief executive officer Datin Irene Gan shared that with the new portal the company planned to sell at least 30,000 travel packages in its first year of operations and double the figure to 60,000 in the following year. As per the information available, Malaysia World is a portal dedicated to selling Malaysia’s travel products and services.

“With our wide distribution network and scalable online capabilities, we are well-poised to achieve record numbers of domestic tourist, revenue and profits,” she reportedly said.

Gan said Malaysia World aims at “bringing Malaysia to Malaysians” with over 300 products, which will increase to over 1,000 by the end of next year. With a population of 26 million, the domestic market is a sizeable market and Reliance Pacific wants to leverage Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign to lure domestic and foreign tourists, Gan reportedly said.

According to local media, on the performance of RelianceTravel.com, Reliance Pacific executive director (travel division) Tan Sin Chong said the portal had achieved about US$8.56 million in revenue for the first nine months ended December 31, 2006.
