STA Travel launches student travel community
February 08, 2007: Student travel company STA Travel kicks off its entry into the social networking landscape with the launch of an online travel community designed specifically to educate, inspire and connect student travelers.
STA Travel, the world’s largest student and youth travel company, announces the launch of statravel193.com, an online travel community designed specifically to educate, inspire and connect student travelers.
The site is populated with videos, photos and facts to assist travelers in choosing four countries for their ultimate trip. The STA Travel community kicks off its entry into the social networking landscape with the launch of the “World Traveler Sweepstakes” which invites trekkers to vie for a 28-day global exploration for two students to four countries of their choice.
To enter the “World Traveler Sweepstakes,” students have until March 2 to submit their e-mail address and the four counties of their choice at statravel193.com. Students may also enter at any STA Travel Branch or at various events on national college campuses. Ten finalists will be selected and the “World Traveler” will be named by their peers through an exciting round of voting on statravel193.com. Other finalists will receive prizes such as a Schwinn 2007 Deluxe 7 bicycle or a Canon - PowerShot 6.0 MP Camera.
Once the contest is complete, statravel193.com will evolve as new community features are launched, allowing students to create profiles and share stories, tips, photographs and videos from their own travels. Members of the community will receive advance notification of special sales and will have first-hand access to the STA Travel network of expert travel advisors.
“With the launch of statravel193.com we are able to connect with our customers and provide a new and innovative way to share our unmatched expertise in travel,” said Scott Hyden, President, STA Travel - North America. “For the past 28 years our business has been focused around creating memorable experiences for cost conscious students and young travelers. This community enables us to do so in a manner that resonates with today’s Web 2.0 generation.”
