The pair were also joined by a group of private angel investors in the round to support two-year old Yonder’s expansion plans.
Yonder’s board of directors have approved an additional $1 million should also be raised.
The company has a mobile app for both Android and iOS devices, allowing users to find and share outdoor leisure trips, such as biking, hiking, fishing and climbing.
A key element of the service is the community platform where travellers share tips, advice and recommendations for particular types of adventure travel.
The service is currently US-focused, with 20,000 destinations around the country loaded into the system.
The company says:
“The company will also integrate technology that will accelerate the deployment of partner brands into the platform and improve the overall infrastructure for monetization.”
The platform is also used to power the community elements of a number of third party adventure-based brands, such as the National Forest Foundation, The North Face and Xanterra.
Vermont Seed Capital Fund has previously invested in online group transportation service, GroupZoom.
