Hong Kong Disneyland announced on 10th November that the price of its single-day admission tickets would go up from HK$450 to HK$499 starting 11th November.

Hong Kong Disneyland announced on 10th November that the price of its single-day admission tickets would go up from HK$450 to HK$499 starting 11th November.

The increase came hard on the heels of Ngong Ping 360’s announcement of a 10% fare hike effective on 19th November.

Hong Kong Legislative Councilor representing the tourism sector Yiu Si-wing said the theme park did not have convincing rationale for the price increase at a rate much higher than inflation. “I hope Hong Kong Disneyland would enhance its Hong Kong characteristics in preparation of future competition from Shanghai Disneyland,” he said.

“Effective 11th November, the theme park’s admission prices will go up by more than 10%, from HK$450 to HK$499 for 1-day ticket for general admission, HK$320 to HK$355 for children, HK$850 to HK$988 for Silver Magic Access, and HK$1,890 to HK$2,188 for the Gold Magic Access,” Hong Kong Disneyland announced.

The resort said in a statement that the price adjustment was made based on a variety of factors including the value of the resort’s attractions and entertainment offerings, and they are committed to continuously enriching Hong Kong Disneyland”.

The theme park also said Hong Kong residents, tour operators and distributers can continue to enjoy the old prices for 1-day tickets, two-day tickets, and “Magic Access” membership until 10th January. Existing “Magic Access” members can also renew their membership at the original price for a year.

Mr Yiu said Hong Kong there was a strong reaction to Disneyland’s price hike brought a by local tour operators. “There is only a two-month long grace period for the price hike, yet the local tour operators’ contracts with the mainland counterparts based on the old prices are effective till March next year. Mainland tour operators are not obligated to cover the difference in ticket prices and Hong Kong tour operators will bear the brunt of the price hike,” he said.(Translation by David)
