China becomes Canada’s 2nd largest source of tourism

Statistics Canada, published its figures showing that the number of Chinese visitors to Canada in August had risen 4.7%. This is an unprecedented 43,102 visitors in one month

Canada’s national newspaper, “The Globe and Mail”, reports that for the first time China has become the second largest source of visitors to Canada.

On the 20th of October Canadian federal agency, Statistics Canada, published its figures showing that the number of Chinese visitors to Canada in August had risen 4.7%. This is an unprecedented 43,102 visitors in one month which surpasses the 42,761 visitors from France in the same month. The number of Chinese visitors to Canada is second only to the number of visitors form the UK. Note: these numbers do not include visitors from the USA.

The total number of visitors to Canada in August rose 2.9%, a total of 457,000 visitors.

Rob Taylor, Vice –President of Public and Industry Affairs at the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, says, “Ever since the Chinese government’s granted Canada ‘Approved Destination Status’ (ADS) in 2009, the number of Chinese visitors to Canada has been continually rising. Chinese tourists usually gather at traditional tourist attractions and cities with large Chinese populations such as Banff National Park in Alberta Province, Vancouver, and Toronto”.(Transaltion by David)
