That is nevertheless what Brian Chesky, the chief executive of the online room rental service Airbnb, is pushing.
"Airbnb's much more than a way to save money," he says. "Our core purpose is that we can bring the world together in our own unique way: when you come to any city in the world we make you feel like you belong."
It remains to be seen what impact, if any, the referendum will have on visits to Scotland. Any ill-feeling that might keep the English away from Edinburgh or the lochs would be no more than a little local difficulty to Chesky, who co-founded Airbnb seven years ago. He is on a mission to reshape not only the travel industry but also the global economy.
