Orbitz.com's projected 2012 mobile sales place it as the highest ranked full-service travel company in mobile commerce, according to the newly released Internet Retailer Mobile 400. The Internet Retailer Mobile 400 is an annual guide that lists the mobile commerce sales of the largest retail companies in the U.S., Europe and Latin America.
Orbitz ranks number four overall in terms of projected 2012 mobile sales (behind Amazon, Apple and Marriott and ahead of Walmart) according to the list, but is number one among full-service online travel companies outpacing all other mobile travel sites in a very competitive marketplace with an expected 2012 mobile gross bookings total to exceed $700 million in U.S. sales (see Internet Retailer's cover story on the Mobile 400 list).
Orbitz climbed eight spots from last year's Mobile 400 list thanks to its suite of easy-to-use mobile products and apps. Over the last year, it has debuted a popular new mobile website and major updates to apps for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android that simplified the search and booking process and added major speed improvements, powerful sort and filtering capabilities and new mapping tools that highlight exclusive, mobile-only hotel discounts in over 240 markets worldwide. The Orbitz mobile apps also offer in-app, one-click access to "hotels near me tonight" based on a user's location.
