Wednesday, December 24, 2008: Hilton Hotels Corporation announced last week that its subsidiary will manage the Waldorf Astoria On The Bund Shanghai after the signing of an agreement with the Shanghai New Union Building Co Ltd.

Scheduled to open in 2011, the hotel will span two buildings and will be located on the Bund which stretches one mile along the western bank of the Huangpu River.

It will boast 266 rooms within the two buildings, one of which is heritage building that was the home to Shanghai’s most infamous Gentleman’s Club in the 1920s.

Martin Rinck, President Hilton Hotels Asia Pacific said, “The historical significance and neoclassical architecture of No 2 on the Bund is a perfect fit for Hilton’s classic Waldorf Astoria luxury hotel brand.”

The Waldorf Astoria On The Bund Shanghai will also have 4 restaurants, 2 bars, a patisserie, a lobby lounge, swimming pool, health club and spa, as well as meeting and banqueting facilities.

This latest development is part of the Hilton’s continued expansion into the Asia Pacific region. Over the next few years Hilton Hotels will launch more Waldorf Astoria hotels and residences in Orlando, Sarasota, Montreal, Beverly Hills and Philadelphia.
