Among travellers, corporates contribute the highest carbon footprint. TMCs, being middle persons, will not be able to provide the necessary information or instruments. "That is why we are here to plug the gap," said Nigel Couzens, Travelport commercial marketing director.

He is referring to Travelport Carbon Tracker, which was launched in April at WTTC Global Travel & Tourism Summit 2008 in Dubai.

Carbon Tracker is an advanced post-booking reporting tool designed for travel agencies and corporations to address the growing demand to measure and report carbon emissions as part of a sustainable travel programme. It is one of the first corporate tools to combine industry-standard compliance reporting with an advanced calculator that uses operational data and a range of key variables to deliver more sophisticated emissions analysis.

Couzens is in town to introduce Travelport´s innovative product to TMCs. Hong Kong is the last stop in his three-city tour, which included Singapore and Sydney.

Last month, Carbon Tracker went to the National Business Travel Association Convention in Los Angeles.
