(23 May 2008) US shopping comparison site Nextag.com has launched its travel search channel into the mushrooming UK meta search market.

In the coming weeks the service is expected to integrate the Amadeus Meta Pricer system also used by Kayak for flight search.

Nextag has existed in the US for four years but has concentrated primarily on electronic goods and other retail goods.

The travel search business sits amongst some of the medium-sized players in the US including Mobissimo and Farecast.

The development of its travel channel in the UK and Europe is being spearheaded by Jim Price, former vice president of business development for Sidestep who left the company following its acquisition by Kayak in December 2007.

Price told Travolution: “Our aim is to become a legitimate player in the travel search business in the UK.

“One of the advantages we have over other travel-only engines is that we have the opportunity to cross-promote and cross-sell against other products on the Nextag site.”

Ebookers will be one of the first major partners in the UK to feature on the travel channel, Price confirmed.
