15 February, 2008:People flying to exotic mid-haul destinations such as Hong Kong, Dubai or South Africa for a long weekend have been highlighted as among the new travel trendsetters.

The so-called ´Super-Break´ is one of the top ten trends identified in the online company Expedia.co.uk´s first Trend Report.

The long haul short break was highlighted as long as two years ago by rival lastminute.com as growing in popularity.

The Expedia report combines research from travellers and hoteliers both in the UK and across Europe. It found that British holidaymakers are becoming savvier when it comes to booking their breaks online, and the ´search, look and book´ trend is expected to continue into 2008.

Travellers are also saving money on flights in order to upgrade to a higher rated hotel at the destination.

They are also saving time at their destination by booking ´extras´ such as car hire, cookery lessons, attractions, at the same time as hotels and flights.

Holidaymakers are also taking greater credence from what others say about hotels – by checking out customer reviews rather than relying on star ratings.
