Millennium opens second Chinese property in Xiamen
Friday, 21 December 2007: Millennium & Copthorne Hotels is set to open its second property in China in January of 2008 when it launches the Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen.
The new property was created when the old Crowne Plaza Harbourview Hotel Xiamen rebranded under the Millennium banner to create the new 352-roomed M&C property.
“We are pleased to establish this franchise relationship with the hotel in Xiamen. It is in line with the group’s growth strategy for Asia,” said Michael Sengol, M&C Chief Operating Officer.“We opened our doors for business in November,” he adds. “We also aim to grow our presence in China.”
The 22-storey building makes good use of its central city location as well as its views of the ocean. Rooms also face Gulangyu Island, and come with standard corporate amenities such as high-speed internet.
“Xiamen sitting at the cross-strait of Taiwan, is one of China’s Special Economic Zones and an important maritime trade port. This offers the hotel a rich base of corporate guests to tap into, which will form our core business segment,” said Simon Jim, Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen GM.
“Supported by our trademark personalised service and luxurious amenities, synonymous with the Millennium brand, we look forward to welcoming back our guests and winning new ones,” Mr Jim adds.
Looking forward M&C will purse interests in Beijing so that it opens in time for Beijing’s 2008 Olympic Games. Following this other ‘targeted’ regions in China will be Chengdu, Wuxi and Qingdao.
