Marriott International to enter Colombia with two hotels in Bogota
Tuesday, 23 October 2007: Marriott International, Inc. will close an important gap in its South American development strategy in 2009 with the opening of two hotels in Bogotá.
Under a franchise agreement with Real Hotels and Resorts, Inc., the hotel division of Grupo Poma of El Salvador, Marriott will open the:
· 264-room luxurious JW Marriott Hotel Bogotá in the financial district of the city
· 239-room upscale Bogotá Marriott close to the Bogotá International Airport in Cuidad Salitre.
Earlier this year, Marriott also signed a multi-year development agreement with Grupo Poma which envisions the development of five, upper-moderate tier Courtyard by Marriott hotels in key cities within Colombia. The first hotel in the program is expected to open in late 2009.
“This agreement enables to us to partner with an experienced hotel company--with a proven track record of successfully operating branded hotels--to achieve our long-term goal of being represented in all the major gateway cities of Latin America with our award-winning brands. We are delighted to know that we now will have a presence in Bogotá and will be able to participate in Colombia’s emergence as one of the leading economies of Latin America,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International.
Speaking for Real Hotels & Resorts, Camilo Bolanos, the company’s marketing and development director, said, “We are extremely excited to be developing these wonderful properties with Marriott. Our goal is to position them as the preferred choice for the most demanding and savvy corporate and leisure guests interested in traveling to Bogotá and we are certain that franchising with Marriott’s brands is ideal for this purpose.”
