Tiger Airways slashes airfares

The airline announced $9.95 one-way airfares to Launceston, $39.95 airfares to Perth, $29.95 airfares to Alice Springs and $19.95 airfares to the Gold Coast, as per the information available.

The airline will offer domestic services between its Melbourne headquarters and eight interstate destinations, subject to federal government approval.Services will include Melbourne to Launceston, the Gold Coast, Rockhampton, Mackay, the Sunshine Coast, Alice Springs, Darwin and Perth. The domestic schedule will link into Tiger´s existing international services between Singapore, Darwin and Perth.

Tiger chief executive Tony Davis reportedly said: “We are a low-cost airline that understands the business model.”

He said, “We don’t believe our competitors in Australia are low-cost airlines in the same mould as Tiger and we’re here for the long-haul.”

The terminal building has undergone a $5 million refit to accommodate Tiger Airways. The terminal has three gates and can accommodate five aircraft. Tiger Airways is due to begin flights on November 23.
