Virgin America has named Orbitz Worldwide as its exclusive online travel agency in the United States for its launch. (7/20/2007)

Virgin America fares will be offered via Orbitz Worldwide’s Orbitz.com and CheapTickets.com websites.

It was shared that both Orbitz.com and CheapTickets.com will commence selling Virgin America tickets on July 19.

“Partnering exclusively with an online travel agency like Orbitz Worldwide ensures Virgin America will be able to reach instantly a huge audience of travelers from day one as we launch,” said Fred Reid, CEO, Virgin America.

Also, the airline shared that it will commence selling tickets through Travelport’s aiRES, a next-generation passenger services system.

In a separate deal, Galileo, a Travelport brand, signed a multiple-year full content agreement with Virgin America, making Galileo the exclusive GDS to offer the carrier’s tickets for sale at launch time.

“iRES is a key part of Virgin America’ strategy to utilise the world’ most advanced technologies to provide customers with best-in-class service,” said Brian Clark, VP of Planning and Sales at Virgin America. “The open architecture and configurability will allow us the flexibility to compete and succeed in an evolving market.”

Through the new multiple-year full content distribution deal with Galileo, all of Virgin America’s published fares and inventory will be available for booking to all Galileo-connected travel agencies and corporations globally.
