Thailand's embassy in China recently informed China's travel agencies that it would only accept around 100 visa applications from each agency starting Thursday.

"Because of the huge number of Chinese tourists, we only can accept 100 passports from each travel agency from November 30," read a Thai embassy notice sent to the travel agencies on Tuesday.

Qualified travel agencies in Shanghai are only allowed to submit 80 applications per day until April 2018, thepaper.cn reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the visa processing time has become vague, the report said.

Visa applications cannot be withdrawn or inquired about, thepaper.cn reported.

Travel website Ctrip confirmed with thepaper.cn that it received the notice from the Thai embassy. They have also extended the Thai visa application period from 6 to 18 working days.

Ctrip suggested that the required documents should be submitted one month ahead when applying for a Thai visa.

An employee of China International Travel Service in Shanghai told Global Times that the Thai tourist visa application fee has been increased from about 200 yuan ($30) to 400 yuan.
